A few months after our creative flower portrait session, Emily and Zoe wanted to do a session with colorful body paint! Zoe’s friend Miranda joined too. I contributed gels again to make some really cool backgrounds. What a fantastic group of images we created!

First up I finally got to try colorful shadows! This is accomplished with three gelled lights: red, blue, yellow. If you know your color theory, colors mix to form white light! So the subject is lit fairly normally, but the shadows from each light then create a color. Isn’t that cool??

Next up, I created some soft pastels to complement the paint. Again, this is just two gels, one on each side! I also brought out the Lensbaby too, for some extra softness and unusualness. (That’s totally not a word but you know what I mean! :D)

And new colors for Miranda. Since I use MagMod gels, it takes literally two seconds to change colors/gels.

Back to a regular lens, and again different colors. This time I chose opposite colors for each person, to make the whole image a little more cohesive.

Then we tried not gel at all, and just one light for a much more dramatic look! Again, the subjects are in the same exact place. I just turned off the other lights. And it’s a completely different look!

Then just for fun, we went with a super bright, intense gel! Plus a pile of crinoline from my prop box. 🙂

This kind of thing is what I love to do–playtime with other creative people! Great job, team!
