Like many of my portraits, this one began with a sudden vision. What if I re-imagined Queen Elizabeth’s coronation portrait as a farmer? Here’s the image I mean:

I asked around and was connected with Tayne at a small independent farm east of Portland. She was willing to model for me! We shot in early summer at their farm once things were growing. She stayed in her actual work clothes, and we used a shovel and plant to replace the scepter and orb. I had my florist friend Alana create a small crown of lavender.

And by george, we got it! Here’s the final image:

I was so thrilled, and very proud that I was able to bring my vision to life! Here are a few other photos I took, of this spot in the field, and with Tayne and her partner around the farm.
