I joined Pro Photo Supply’s outing to Stonehenge for the Supermoon! No, we didn’t fly to the Salisbury Plain in England — there’s a full-scale replica in Maryhill, Washington!
The drive east from Portland was longer than I expected, but I love the fascinating scenery out there. And as a bonus, it was a perfect golden hour with a clear blue sky. When I arrived at Stonehenge, the golden hour was just about to end though. We all grabbed some scenery shots as the sun set and we waited for moonrise. The twilight sky was so beautiful too with its pinks and blues. There are many wind turbines in the Gorge, which make for a fun accessory to these landscape images.
Finally, the moon! Click click click as the row of photographers began to photograph it as it slowly rose into the sky.
Using the live view zoom, I *finally* got a crisp shot of the moon! I think this is the best one I’ve ever gotten over the years. Thank you, technology!
Then we all began to play a bit and move around. We put the moon in or around the structure as it rose. I did some regular shots like above but also a lot of long-exposures.
This is moonlight!! The huge Supermoon was so bright!!
Again, this is NOT the sun—it’s the moon! This image is my favorite from the evening. I love creating a sunburst effect in camera, but this was my first time creating a moonburst!
