The Art and Practice of Self-Portraiture

Explore the enduring relevance of self-portraiture in this fun and immersive workshop. 

Designed for professional and amateur creatives at all levels, this session invites you to engage with self-portraiture not merely as a technique, but as an important form of personal and artistic expression.

In this three-hour workshop, we will explore:

• The history and evolution of self-portraiture
• The differences between casual selfies and intentional self-portraiture
• The role self-portraiture plays in artistic expression
• Various methods and approaches of self-portraiture
• The essential tools and methods for producing self-portraits

We will conclude with an interactive practice session, where participants will try out some of these techniques. 

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the conceptual and technical foundations of self-portraiture, along with the inspiration and practical skills to continue developing their practice.

The workshop can be done in-person or over zoom, and can last 1.5 to 3 hours. 

Bio: Julie Jacob, M.Photog., CPP, FP-OR, began her photography journey with self-portraiture and she believes everyone should try it! She is a portrait photographer in Portland, OR, focusing on schools, business, family, and fine art portraiture.
