I love maternity sessions! I do a lot of them outdoors in nature, but I also adore doing studio maternity sessions. It makes the images into art! This session was in my home studio, which is very small, but I have enough lights and backgrounds and knowledge to create so many looks and options in that small space! We did a lot of dramatic lighting here, which I love so much. We also used my new Hi-liter, which is a person-sized softbox to create that bright white background. I’ve got a couple maternity gowns shown here as well as my favorite non-gown–a huge ivory chiffon fabric. We did images that showed more, but of course I won’t share that here.

Maternity photos are so special, especially so for first-time moms. It’s an exciting, tender time in life. It seems to go so slowly when you’re in it–feeling your body change and being uncomfortable. But looking back those memories fade, I promise! 🙂 That’s what I love about capturing this time–a maternity photography session may be a once-in-a-lifetime event! I think it’s really important to have these images to look back on–for mom and for baby.

This family is going to put a large print up in their home to enjoy with their new baby!
